To be or not to be the smallest fish in the world! We all know that the biggest fish ever is the whale shark. And now, a team of scientists from Switserland & Singapore have discovered the smallest one. The Paedocypris progenetica has won first price with a lenght of 7.9 millimeters.
This species was found in the peat swamps of Sumatra and is related with the carp.
It's a bit of a surprice that this fish can survive in this darkbrown peaty water as the acidity is 300 times higher than regular water.
The Paedocypris progenetica is practically transparent and doesn't seem to have a bone structure.
Still it falls to the vertebrated species.
